2005 RECYCLING SCHEDULE 

Remember to put out trash and/or recycling the night before or very early the next morning on holidays as contractors may schedule early pickups.

RECYCLE DAY FOR BOX HILL SOUTH IS MONDAY 

Harford Sanitation picks up recycling materials as early as 6:00 AM so please make sure all materials are in front of your property on Sunday evening after dusk.

recycleCurbside Recycling:

READ THE PROCEDURE EFFECTIVE 2/1/2000.

  • Place all paper items together in a paper bag, cardboard box or bundled. Flatten corrugated cardboard.
  • Rinse and place glass, plastic and metal containers together in a blue bag. Discard bottle caps

Glass jars and bottles: All food and beverage jars and bottles of all colors.

NO: caps or bottle tops, window glass, drinking glasses, light bulbs.

Plastic bottles and jugs: Narrow neck bottles and jugs with # 1 or # 2 inside triangle on or near the bottom of the container such as soda and detergent bottles and milk jugs.

NO: plastic wide mouth food containers such as yogurt, margarine or peanut butter, dinnerware; containers with # 3 or # 7; no motor oil bottles.

Metal cans (aluminum and tin): All food and beverage cans.

NO: aluminum foil or pans; no scrap metal.

Paper: Newspapers, magazines, catalogs, junk mail, paperboard boxes (cereal), telephone books, non-metallic gift wrap, flattened corrugated cardboard.

NO: food contaminated, waxed, laminated or carbon paper, Post-it notes.

 

Harford County's Curbside Recycling Program is 12 years old...started June 1, 1992

537,557 tons of material has been diverted from the Harford Waste Disposal Center at Scarboro Landfill which has added 4 years of capacity to the landfill! In 1999, Harford County led the state with a recycling rate of 49%.
